DB7020S flash problem

First of all, sorry for posting in English, but I don't know Dutch. I hope that maybe someone could help me...
OK, so got my new DB7020S box :) , very proud of it, but when trying to flash there are several problems:
1) the wellknown dhcp problem: I didn't manage to change it through terminal (mention: I am not a computer illiterate, on the contrary, I can handle both Windows and Linux). The terminal windows keeps showing me a lot of not understandable characters and nothing happens when pressing "S" as stated everywhere. Abandoned this track...
2) using Dreamup: first of all used a laptop with Windows XP, the box passes through the boot process like a TGV (train de grande vitesse) through a village station - nothing happens.
Changed to a windows 98 computer: it works untill flashing the new image, but while doing that it hangs in various stages of the flash process. I tried many times and waited long periods of time until to try again (at least 15-20 minutes).
So now, I'm at a stage where I'm "stucked" in a "no man's land". I can't either start my box normally (of course the old image was erased and the new one wasn't flashed). The IP I gave to the box was probably erased also because it doesn't respond to ping anymore. Now I'm in my last stage of patience and I'm writing this message while installing Fedora core 3 on my laptop in order to try it from this angle (Dreamup and wine).
I would be grateful if someone with more experience could guide me through this before I make something stupid (with the box, of course :) ).
Thank you very much!
Gabi

Hello gabigrigore,

First of all sorry for my english because it isn't very well but I hope you can understand me. I will help you with your problem with your DREAM. It seems a big problem, but if you did it a few times it is easy. If you want to change your ip-adres manually with hyper terminal in windows xp, connect your dream with a serial cable and start hyper terminal. Give your connecting a name like"dream". it doesn't matter what. push ok. with the next screen you must select your connection. mostly it is com 1. push ok again. with the last screen you can select the speed of your connection. This is 115200. default it is 2400. then you het the final screen with a cursor end a white background. This is the moment to press the "S" and start your dreambox. when on the screen appears dream, let down the "S" key. if you did it correctly, a menu appears on your screen. here you can change your ip-adres manually. default it is dhcp. If you change your ip-adres, save it and exit. your dream has now a ip-adres. connect your dream normal with your tv with your cables and hold the lower button and start your dream on the backside with the on/off button. hold the lower button until you see **stop** on your dreamscreen . if you see this let the lower button down and your dream show you a ip-adres you filled with hyper-terminal like 10.0.0.155. go to your pc and fill the ip-adres you see on the dreamscreen in internet explorer. Now you have connection with your dreambox. push the device upgrade button on the lowerside of the page and you will get another screen where you can set a firmware of your own and push the flash button. Now you must wait, untill finished appears in you screen. done!!!!
Your dreambox has now a new image/ nfi.
Second method to flash your dreambox is with a serial cable and a program like dreamup 7020. this is the most safely method!!!
Connect your dreambox with a serial cable with your pc and start the program. don't use here the network, but only the port you use. here is it also com 1. push the connect button, and you will see a text appears"connection prepared, swith on your dreambox". this is the time to turn on your dreambox and also a text seas. ok, uploading. when uploading is done. push the flash button on the right side of your screen and choose the image again you want to upload. When this is done you can wait a while, untill it is say to you. flash is upload. Done!!!!!!!
I hope you can something with this information and let me know if you fix your problem.

Thank you very much for support! I finally gave up and did it through an "administrative workaround" ... :) ...which means I went to the nearest computer shop and bought myself a compact flash card and a reader/writer (to sum it up somewhere around 30 Euro) and solved it. Otherwise, after installing the image everything worked exactly like in the manual. I installed the cams, plugins etc. via the network, everything was perfect, little things that saved my day :)
I must say I'm impressed with the capabilities of this box anyway... Good luck to you all and hope that I will be capable to offer my help to others also.
@deniz01: What I don't understand is that I did have both a crossover cable and a nullmodem cable inserted in my laptop and my box and they were both good. And to go even further... during my numerous "half-flashes" :) the connection speed varied very much: e.g. one time was 11kB/s and the next time was 200kB/s and so on... God knows... I'll search to see if someone else encounters the same problem... Thank you very much, once again, for your help! :)
