Angosat-1 declared dead, Anogsat-2 promised

In April 2016, the Minister of Telecommunication and Information Technologies of Angola José Carvalho de Rocha announced that the Angosat-1 satellite would be launched in the first quarter of 2017. However in September of the same year, the Izvestiyadaily reported that the completion of the Angosat satellite was still two months away.  As of October 2016, the Angosat-1 was not expected to be ready before July 2017.

The satellite finally reached the launch pad in 2017 and was delivered into orbit by a Zenit rocket on December 26. Although the launch vehicle performed by the book, the satellite exhibited fatal problems with its power supply system practically immediately after entering autonomous flight, resulting in the loss of communications with the spacecraft.

Despite all the hopes to restore communications, on April 23, 2018, the Angolan government officially declared the satellite a total loss. A day earlier, de Rocha told the Jornal de Angola newspaper that his government had accepted a proposal from Roskosmosto built a replacement spacecraft for Angosat-1. The Russian side reportedly promised that the construction of the Angosat-2 satellite would take no longer than 18 months and the replacement vehicle would have better technical capabilities than its predecessor. According to the Angolan official, part of the cost for the construction of Anogsat-2 would be covered with a $121-million insurance payment for the loss of Angosat-1 and the rest would be paid by the Russian government.

via de 11221 verticaal bevinden zich nu geen kanalen meer wel is de transponder nog in de lucht met een draaggolf
